Evil Controllers Overview

Evil Controllers has created multiple options for accessible controllers for gamers who can partially access a standard video game controller. They have two main accessible controller options available: 1) the One-Handed Controller and 2) the Lightweight Controller. Both can be purchased as Xbox or PlayStation controllers.

The One-Handed Controller is best for gamers who can completely access one side of the controller but have difficulty accessing the controller with the opposite hand. Additional buttons are moved to the accessible side of the controller to replace controls on the side that the user can’t access. In addition, an external joystick is attached to replace the joystick on the side of the controller that the user can’t access. This can be placed in a location that is more accessible to the user.

The Lightweight Controller is for users who either can’t generate enough force to activate some of the buttons on the controller or for users who find that they are fatiguing easily while playing with a standard controller. The overall weight of the controller can be made to be lighter. The force required to activate each of the buttons and triggers can also be reduced. Finally, additional buttons can be added to the back of the controller and they can be mapped to any button on the controller.

Ordering

When ordering, make sure the correct controller is ordered for the console that the user games on and make sure the correct hand is ordered if ordering the One-Handed Controller. Note that the controllers may not be available for all types of consoles. There are also many different modifications that are available to choose from when ordering both controllers. The Evil Controllers site provides a great overview of the options that are available to adjust when ordering the One-Handed or Lightweight Controllers. When ordering, scroll to the bottom of the page to see descriptions of the different modifications available on each controller.

Getting Started

The Accessible Evil Controllers connect to the game console similar to a standard controller. If a user would like to use their controller on a console that is not directly supported (e.g. use an Xbox Evil Controller on the Nintendo Switch), they will need to use an adapter. The adapter “tricks” the console into thinking the controller is compatible. The Cronus Zen Adapter will allow the Evil Controllers to work with most consoles. Therefore, this or a similar adapter should allow users to connect their controller to different consoles.
