Adaptive Gaming Resources

Below is a list of organizations that provide services for those needing help with getting started with adaptive gaming. This includes help with general questions, assessments, providing equipment trials, and identifying funding resources. Listed below are both organizations by state and general organizations that can provide gaming services. If you know of an organization or are an organization that provides adaptive gaming services that are not listed, please message us at the bottom of the page so we can add the resource to the list.

  • Alabama’s Assistive Technology Resource (APTAT)

    Services: APTAT does not provide any specific assessment or evaluation services for adaptive gaming but can help with general AT. For trialing adaptive gaming equipment, Alabama residents can demo equipment through their lending library https://al.at4all.com/, which includes adaptive gaming controllers.

  • Arizona Technology Access Program (AzTAP): Adaptive Gaming Clinic

    Location: Phoenix, AZ

    Services: AzTAP can help provide adaptive gaming assessments, equipment demonstrations, and allow users to trial different adaptive gaming equipment. They have a specific clinic that specializes in adaptive video gaming.

  • Increasing Capabilities Access Network (ICAN)

    Services: ICAN does not provide any specific assessment or evaluation services for adaptive gaming but can help with general AT. For trialing adaptive gaming equipment, Arkansas residents can demo equipment through their lending library, which includes adaptive gaming controllers.

  • Center for Applied Rehabilitation Technology (CART)

    Location: Downey, CA

    Services: CART provides services including assessment and trialing adaptive gaming equipment. They are partnered with the Rancho Emerging Tech Lab, which can help provide 3D printed adaptive modifications.

    Ability Tools

    Services: Ability Tools is California’s Assistive Technology Act Program and can provide demos or loans for assistive technology equipment, including equipment for adaptive gaming. They do not provide any formal adaptive gaming assessment services.

  • Craig Hospital

    Services: The Assistive Technology Lab at Craig Hospital provides adaptive gaming assessments and can allow users to trial different equipment. They are also an AbleGamers partner and can help individuals with acquiring equipment once the appropriate setup is identified. They are able to work with individuals connected with their inpatient/outpatient therapy services at Craig Hospital.  

    Adaptive Action Sports

    Location: Cooper Mountain, CO

    Services: Adaptive E-Sports is offered as a program at Adaptive Action Sports allowing users to trial adaptive gaming equipment at different adaptive gaming stations. Individuals who are interested in trialing the equipment can email to reserve a time for a gaming session with the equipment.

    Assistive Technology Act Program of Colorado

    Services: Assistive Technology Act Program of Colorado has adaptive gaming equipment available for users to trial. They may be able to help provide a basic assessment of adaptive gaming needs. 

  • New England Assistive Technology (NEAT)

    Location: Hartford, CT

    Services: NEAT can help with gaming assessments, lending of devices, and trialing of adaptive gaming equipment.

  • Generational Relief in Prosthetics (GRiP)

    Location: Gainesville, Florida

    Services: GRiP is a student organization out of the University of Florida that creates 3D printed devices including video game controller adaptations. Controller adaptations can be requested by email, and they can work with users regardless of location. They do not provide gaming assessment services or trialing of commercial adaptive gaming devices.

  • Shepherd Center

    Location: Atlanta, GA

    Services: Shepherd Center’s Access Technology Lab provides adaptive gaming assessments and trialing of adaptive gaming devices. These are available to individuals who are currently enrolled in their therapy services.

    Georgia Tech

    Location: Atlanta, GA

    Services: The Tools for Life adaptive gaming lab at Georgia Tech can provide gaming consultations, demonstrations, trailing of adaptive gaming devices, and equipment loans. Interested individuals can fill out a form on their site to schedule an adaptive gaming session.

    Services: Idaho Assistive Technology Project has a lending library of adaptive gaming equipment allowing individuals to loan and trail equipment. They do not provide any formal adaptive gaming assessment services.

  • Illinois Assistive Technology Program (IATP)

    Location: Springfield, IL

    Services: IATP can provide assistive technology assessment and allow individuals to trial different adaptive gaming equipment. They also have a lending library that can loan different adaptive equipment, including adaptive gaming devices.

  • Rx Gaming

    Location: Indianapolis, IN

    Services: Rx Gaming hosts adaptive gaming events within the Indianapolis area providing assessments and allow users to trial adaptive gaming equipment. They can also help individuals with acquiring adaptive gaming equipment once the right setup is identified. Interested individuals can sign up for an event through their website.

    Easterseals Indiana

    Services: Easterseals Indiana has a lending library of adaptive gaming equipment allowing individuals to loan and trail equipment. They do not provide any formal adaptive gaming assessment services.

  • Easterseals Iowa

    Location: Des Moines, Iowa

    Services: The Assistive Technology Center at Easterseals Iowa can loan adaptive gaming equipment to individuals interested in trialing different adaptive devices for gaming. This can be requested through their website and is available for Iowa residents.

  • University of Kansas Assistive Technology for Kansans (ATK) Program

    Services: ATK staff can help with identifying appropriate adaptive gaming equipment and finding equipment to loan. They can also help with identifying funding sources for adaptive gaming equipment once the appropriate setup is identified.

  • Kentucky Assistive Technology Locator

    Services: Kentucky Assistive Technology Locator has a lending library of adaptive gaming equipment allowing individuals to loan and trail equipment. They do not provide any formal adaptive gaming assessment services.

They can work with individuals currently enrolled in their therapy services. They can also help with identifying funding for equipment and are an AbleGamers partner.

    Spaulding Rehabilitation

    Location: Boston, MA

    Services: Spaulding Rehabilitation can provide adaptive gaming assessments and allow individuals to trial with adaptive gaming equipment. They can work with individuals enrolled in their therapy services and inpatient rehabilitation program. They can also help with identifying funding for equipment and are an AbleGamers partner.

  • University of Michigan Rehabilitation Medicine

    Location: Ann Arbor, MI

    Services: The rehabilitation engineering program at University of Michigan Rehabilitation Medicine can work with individuals on assessment for adaptive gaming needs and trialing with equipment. They can work with individuals currently enrolled in their therapy services and inpatient rehabilitation program.

    Michigan Assistive Technology Program (MATP)

    Services: MATP has a lending library of adaptive gaming equipment allowing individuals to loan and trail equipment. They do not provide any formal adaptive gaming assessment services.

  • LiveLife Therapy Solutions

    Location: Bloomington, MN

    Services: LifeLife Therapy Solutions can provide adaptive gaming assessments and allows individuals to trial adaptive gaming equipment. They can also help identify and obtain funding for adaptive gaming equipment once the appropriate setup is identified. They can work with individuals with disabilities throughout MN.

    MN STAR

    Services: The MN STAR program has a lending library of adaptive gaming equipment allowing individuals to loan and trail equipment. They do not provide any formal adaptive gaming assessment services.

    Location: Columbia, MO

    Services: The Assistive Technology Adaption and Training Laboratory at University of Missouri provides services to individuals interested in trialing adaptive gaming equipment. Individuals interested can contact their assistive technology lab to set up a time to trial the equipment. The service is free to Mizzou students.

  • MonTECH

    Services: MonTECH has many different adaptive gaming devices in their lending library that can be loaned to individuals to trial. They do not provide any formal adaptive gaming assessments.

    Services: Mount Sinai can provide assessments for adaptive gaming needs and allow individuals to trial equipment. They can also assist in identifying funding for adaptive gaming equipment and are an AbleGamers partner. They also host adaptive gaming tournaments and are the origin site of the Quad Gods eSports team.

    Services: Rx Gaming hosts adaptive gaming events within the Indianapolis area providing assessments and allow users to trial adaptive gaming equipment. They can also help individuals with acquiring adaptive gaming equipment once the right setup is identified. Interested individuals can sign up for an event through their website.

    Services: Community Vision’s Assistive Technology Lab provides adaptive gaming consultations to identify an adaptive gaming setup for an individual and allow them to trial equipment. They can also loan various adaptive gaming equipment.

  • University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC)

    Location: Pittsburgh, PA

    Services: UPMC provides adaptive gaming assessments and allows individuals to trial different adaptive gaming equipment. They can also help individuals identify funding for adaptive gaming equipment and are an AbleGamers partner. Interested individuals can contact the Center for Assistive Technology or Assist+ program for an adaptive gaming evaluation.

    Location: Philadelphia, PA

    Services: Tech Owl has community space dedicated to assistive technology, including adaptive gaming. Individuals can drop by during open hours to trial different adaptive gaming devices. They can also loan adaptive gaming equipment from their lending library.

    Services: The Tennessee ATP has some adaptive gaming devices in their lending library that can be loaned to individuals to trial. They do not provide any direct adaptive gaming assessment or services.

  • Texas Technology Access Program (TTAP)

    Location: Austin, Texas

    Services: The TTAP has many different adaptive gaming devices in their lending library that can be loaned to individuals to trial. They do not provide any formal adaptive gaming assessments but are an AbleGamers partner.

  • Craig H. Nielson Rehabilitation Hospital

    Location: Salt Lake City, UT

    Services: The Assistive Technology at Craig H. Nielson can provide adaptive gaming assessments and allow individuals to trial adaptive gaming devices. These services are available to individuals currently enrolled in their therapy services or inpatient rehabilitation program.

    Utah Assistive Technology Program (UATP)

    Location: Logan, UT

    Services: The UATP has a variety of different adaptive gaming equipment available for individuals to trial and loan. They do not provide any formal adaptive gaming assessment services.

  • Vermont Assistive Technology Program

    Services: The Vermont Assistive Technology Program has a lending library allowing individuals to check out various adaptive gaming devices to trial. They do not provide any forma adaptive gaming assessment services.

    Services: The Pacific Northwest Adaptive Technology Library can provide loans of adaptive gaming equipment for individuals to trial. They do not provide any formal adaptive gaming assessment services.

  • West Virginia Assistive Technology System (WVATS)

    Services: WVATS can provide loans of adaptive gaming equipment, including equipment for adaptive gaming. They do not provide any formal adaptive gaming assessment services.

  • Independence First

    Location: Milwaukee, WI

    Services: Independence First provides adaptive gaming services allowing individuals to trial different adaptive controllers. They also host adaptive gaming nights allowing individuals from the community to come and game tother.

    WisTech Program

    Services: The WisTech program has a large assistive technology library that allows individuals to loan adaptive gaming equipment to trial. They do not provide any formal adaptive gaming assessment services.

  • Wyoming Assistive Technology Resources (WATR)

    Services: WATR can provide loans of adaptive gaming equipment, including equipment for adaptive gaming. They do not provide any formal adaptive gaming assessment services.
